Chloë Sobek

Chloë Sobek

Chloë is an artist working in the areas of experimental sound performance, improvisation and early music. Her work draws on the sensate qualities of sound through the subversion and deconstruction of solo instrumental performance.

Chloë’s current practice is built around the Renaissance precursor to the double bass, the violone. Recognising the tension in how this ornate, German Renaissance instrument can sit at the centre of a practice that revolves around the creation of new music in contemporary Australia, Chloë experiments with augmenting the natural acoustic sound of the instrument through electronic devices, extended technique and audio-montage.

In recent years Chloë has co-created performances for Liquid Architecture, the Substation and Inland Concert Series. In 2020 Chloë was selected as a scholarship recipient for the Marten Bequest. In 2021 Chloë was awarded a scholarship to complete her doctoral degree at Monash University.
